(BOTI) is considered to be one of the largest Arab oil institutes in terms of students capacity ( more than 2500 students ), number of specialties of the basic technical courses, which the institute is capable of conducting (more than 20 disciplines ). Size of faculty members ( about 250 members at the present , out of a total personnel 450) , variety of objectives ( preparation of technicians, continuing education and personnel development courses for the Iraqi petroleum sectorُ s work forces and offering technical services). It is also the biggest of three oil institutes operating in Iraq, owned and run by the ministry of oil One of the other two oil institutes is near of Baghdad . The second institute is in Basra city which is 600 km south of Baghdad.
